Plot Synopsis

ACTIVE SHOOTER: AMERICA UNDER FIRE is an eight-part documentary series that explores America's mass shootings and their devastating consequences. From the first-hand perspective of survivors, families of the victims, witnesses and heroic first responders, the series goes beyond the sensationalistic coverage of these nightmarish moments to offer a comprehensive report on these tragic events. Each one-hour episode focuses on one of the numerous active shooter incidents that have occurred in the United States, to provide a thoughtful and comprehensive examination of one of the most important issues of our time. In the series premiere, survivors and first responders recount the 2012 movie theater shooting in Aurora, CO; meanwhile, a grieving family challenges the media.
On Friday, November 17, 2017 at a special time 8pm ET/PT, Showtime premiered the season finale of ACTIVE SHOOTER: AMERICA UNDER FIRE. The season ender explores the 1999 attack at Columbine High School in Littleton, CO, and the myths that may have inspired the active shooter phenomenon.
