Plot Synopsis

NASCAR racing champion Ray Evernham and his crew search for hidden historic vehicles in barns, garages, junkyards and even basements across the United States, while exploring the American car culture and its personalities. In each 30-minute episode of this reality series, Ray chronicles the history of a vehicle and the culture and people associated with the car, including: the Woody wagon from the 1940s California beach scene, with Beach Boy frontman Mike Love and surfing icon Laird Hamilton discussing surf culture; the Corvette, which inspired NASCAR businessman Rick Hendrick to start his car empire and influenced Brad Paisley's music; the 777 car of Marty Robbins, who was a Grammy-winning musician and a race-car driver; dragsters, with Don 'The Snake' Prudhomme who made an impact of pop culture, and Formula 1 cars, with director Ron Howard discussing RUSH; the winning car of the 1955 Indy 500, which sits on the roof of an auto mechanic shop, being restored by Indy mechanic/owner Chris Paulsen; the truck of Smokey Yunick, who was NASCAR's most innovative mechanic; and the Yellow 303 racer of Fred Dmuchowski, who inspired Ray to pursue his motorsports career. AMERICARNA returned for its 10-episode second season on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, as Velocity premiered back-to-back new episodes. In the Season 2 opener, Ray is granted unprecedented access to Elvis Presley's personal warehouse at Graceland. From the clothes he wore, to the television he watched, to the cars he drove, AMERICARNA takes an intimate look at some of The King's most prized possessions. With special guests Rick Hendrick and Dale Earnhardt Jr., Ray reveals the pristine restoration of Elvis's beloved Stutz Blackhawk at Charlotte Motor Speedway and gives audiences an exclusive look at the van he once used to sneak out of Graceland. In subsequent episodes of the second season, Ray takes a look at the following vehicles: the famous racing L88 Corvette; the 1999 Pepsi Car, a Chevrolet Monte Carlo that claimed victory in Ray's final lap together with Jeff Gordon at Phoenix, AZ; the Ritchie Evans #61 car and a replica of Jerry Cook's #38 car, which undergo side-by-side restoration, hitting the track at Martinsville; General Motors Concept Cars, with GM VP of Global Design Ed Welburn; the Ford Mustang, celebrating its 50th birthday; 1950s Glasspar Cars, a line of fiberglass cars manufactured to mirror sports cars that American soldiers saw overseas in Europe during WWII; the Schultz El Fierro, which was driven by the legendary Carroll Shelby, and Mario Andrettis 1965 Indy car; famous cars from movies, like Hells Chariot from the original GREASE movie, the Bumble Bee from TRANSFORMERS, the tank from HUNGER GAMES, and the 1968 Chevy Impala from AMERICAN GRAFFITI; and a lost set of the extremely rare Ardun Heads. Season 3 of AMERICARNA premiered on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Velocity. In the new season, Evernham opens the door to stories involving amazing cars and celebrity superstars. Ray explores the fascinating details behind the disastrous sinkhole that swallowed the showroom at the National Corvette Museum and visits with car loving A-list celebrities such as country music star Tim McGraw, racing legend Dan Gurney and blue's musician Joe Bonamassa. Season 3 opens with a special one-hour episode about the story of the massive sinkhole that opened underneath the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky in 2015, where eight cars were swallowed up, including the 1,000,000th Corvette. Plus, Ray goes inside the rebuilding process of some of these invaluable Corvettes, revealing exclusive footage of a milestone moment in the history of General Motors as the company restores Corvette #1,000,000.
