Plot Synopsis

Played every year the Arena Football League (AFL) has existed, the ARENABOWL is the AFL's end-of-season championship game between the winners of the American Conference and National Conference. While the early ARENABOWLS were played at the home site of the team with the better regular season record, higher seeded, or better home attendance, from 2005-2013 the game had been held in a neutral location with the exception of the 2010 and 2011 ARENABOWLS. Beginning in 2014, the ARENABOWL was again hosted by the higher seeded team. Each winning team is awarded the league's Foster Trophy, named for Jim Foster, one of the founding members of the AFL and its first commissioner. The Pittsburgh Gladiators won the inaugural ARENABOWL 45-16, earning the right to host the event because it had better home attendance than its opponent, the Denver Dynamite, with both teams having the same league record and head-to-head results. Since then, the Tampa Bay Storm has won five championship games, the most in AFL history. In 2013, ArenaBowl XXVI was broadcast live from Orlando, FL by CBS on Saturday, August 17, at 1pm ET/10am PT, pitting the Philadelphia Soul against the Arizona Rattlers. On Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 8pm ET/5pm PT, ESPN broadcast ArenaBowl XXVII live from Quicken Loans Arena, where the Cleveland Gladiators (17-1) host the Arizona Rattlers (15-3) and battle for the James F. Foster Trophy. Play-by-play announcer Ari Wolfe calls the action with analyst Anthony Herron, a former AFL player and coach. The booth team is joined by sideline reporter JB Long and sideline analyst and AFL Hall of Fame quarterback Sherdrick Bonner.

ESPN broadcast ArenaBowl XXVIII live from Stockton Arena on Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 7pm ET/4pm PT, as the Jacksonville Sharks (12-8) took on the San Jose Sabercats (19-1). The Sharks and SaberCats met once during the 2015 regular season, as San Jose defeated Jacksonville on Sea Best Field back in Week 4. Once again, the ArenaBowl coverage featured Ari Wolfe (Play-by-Play), Anthony Herron (Analyst) and Sherdrick Bonner (Field Analyst) on the call for a game that was also available to stream live via WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app for mobile devices.
