Plot Synopsis

FLIP OR FLOP is a reality series that follows a young couple, Tarek and Christina El Moussa, as they flip properties in Southern California. Tarek is a self-proclaimed real estate genius with determination and drive, but they are relatively novice flippers putting everything they have into this venture, including the fortunes of their crazy parents and stepparents. Each 30-minute episode features Tarek and Christina flipping a new property -- from the nail-biting purchase at auction, to the frustrating renovations and maddening showings, and ending with the giddy acceptance of an offer -- including these purchases: a foreclosed property in Anaheim Hills, which they bought for $430k, only to later find that the property was vandalized and concrete was poured in the sinks, showers and toilets, destroying the plumbing in the house; a foreclosure in Yorba Linda, which they purchased for $393K at auction, only to find an unpermitted fourth bedroom as they worked with their contractor, Dan Messina; a four-bedroom house in Garden Grove, for which they use $280K from an investor, Pete De Best, and then spend $80K on improvements and fixes; a family home in an upscale neighborhood in Cypress, which they purchase even though their contractor, Izzy Battres, warns them about troubling signs of water damage that cannot be thoroughly investigated until they own the house; a foreclosed 1920's Spanish style house in Santa Ana, which they purchase for $208K at auction and are later surprised their contractor finds structural damage to the foundation and roof leaks; and many more homes the couple purchases at auction or through short sales.

Immediately following a six-hour marathon (3-9pm ET/PT) of encore episodes, FLIP OR FLOP returned for its second season on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. In the Season 2 premiere, Tarek and Christina broaden their search to include Los Angeles County when they find no foreclosures to flip in Orange County. The home is too far away for them to look at it before they go to the auction, so they bid on the property sight unseen. When they meet their contractor at the house for a design walkthrough, they suffer from total foreclosure shock. Plus, Season 2 reveals how the couple is even more focused on their family after Tarek's health scare, when a viewer, who also happened to be a registered nurse, spotted a lump on Tarek's neck during an episode and alerted him to seek life-saving treatment for thyroid cancer.

Season 3 of FLIP OR FLOP premiered on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV, immediately following an all-day (1-9pm) marathon of encore episodes. On Tuesday, December 3, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, HGTV premiered the fourth season of FLIP OR FLOP, immediately following an eight-hour marathon (1-9pm) of encore episodes. This season Tarek and Christina take on more high-stakes risks as they invest in short sales and foreclosures, all while balancing their growing family. They venture into barricaded properties and abandoned locations, because they believe braving the worst homes on the block translates into the best return on their investments. During the premiere episode, "Of Wreck and Ruin," Tarek and Christina purchase a sight-unseen rental home in La Puente, CA, and it proves to be one of their most challenging flips yet. The dilapidated property requires a pricey makeover -- from the foundation to the drywall -- before it can be put on the market for sale.

The fifth season of FLIP OR FLOP premiered on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. Tarek and Christina kick off the season with a property in Whittier, CA, that would scare most buyers away. As renovation begins, the couple encounters surprise repairs that drive up their costs and delay them from putting the house on the market. These costly problems could whittle the house -- and the couple's profit -- down to the studs. "When we're flipping a house, there's always a chance we'll run into an unexpected repair," said Christina. "These surprises keep us on our toes and push us to make the best choices."

Season 6 of FLIP OR FLOP premiered on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV, immediately following an 8.5-hour marathon (12:30-9pm) of encore episodes. In the season opener, "Hidden Potential," Tarek and Christina flip a house in Garden Grove, CA. They really have their work cut out for them on this one because not only is the house on a busy street but it is a mess! Have Tarek and Christina opened up a can of worms or does this flip have some hidden potential waiting to be uncovered?

On Thursday, June 15, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT, HGTV premiered the seventh season of FLIP OR FLOP. In the season opener, "A Deceiving Deal," Tarek and Christina see a great opportunity to purchase a three-bedroom house in Whittier, CA, for a low price since the seller is looking to unload it quickly and it is still tenant occupied. Their hopes are high, but once they get inside they find that the tenants left the place in an absolute wreck. Will they be able to handle this mess or have they been deceived by what's on the outside?

Season 8 of FLIP OR FLOP premiered on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. Divorced couple Christina Anstead and Tarek El Moussa find their stride as successful business partners and co-parents in the new 18-episode season. "Christina and I are in a really good place right now," said Tarek. "We've worked hard to keep our business strong, but our kids will always be our #1 priority. It's important they know we respect each other and that we only want the best for them." "I feel like Tarek and I have started a brand-new chapter," said Christina. "We may not always agree on kitchen backsplashes or floor plans, but we're always on the same page when it comes to our kids. We've learned to put our differences aside, so we can give Taylor and Brayden the best and happiest life possible." In the season opener, "Unpermitted Flip," Christina and Tarek buy a rundown four-bedroom property in Rowland Heights that has an illegal addition, sloping floor and noisy parkway nearby. However, with its desirable location, pool and neighborhood, the duo decides the home will have huge potential once they transform it into a gorgeous family home. Throughout the season, Christina and Tarek tackle nearly uninhabitable houses that need to be gutted down to the studs, including a property left in ruins by the previous owner's cats and one with defective plumbing in its shoddy garage conversion.

FLIP OR FLOP returned for its ninth season on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV, immediately following a five-hour marathon (4-9pm) of encore episodes. Always ready to renovate and flip any run-down house with potential, real estate experts Tarek El Moussa and Christina Anstead will buy, rehab and sell more of SoCal's dilapidated properties in Season 9. In the new episodes, the duro continue to navigate both the expected and surprising challenges of co-parenting their kids -- Taylor, 9, and Brayden, 5 -- while running a successful business. In the season opener, "Back House Flip," Tarek and Christina find a small house in Lakewood, CA, to flip quickly. However, when they discover an unpermitted addition, they are faced with a dilemma of bringing the addition up to code or tearing down the nicest part of the house. Throughout the season, the pair races to snatch up desirable properties in LA's hot real estate market, takes on homes with challenging floorplans and overhauls what is possibly their grossest flip yet. After a three-month break, FLIP OR FLOP returned with new episodes on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV. In the spring premiere, "Fifties Flip," Christina convinces Tarek to take on a classic '50s flip in Norwalk, California. Once they begin updating the vintage home to create a more functional layout for contemporary buyers, it proves to be a huge challenge as they navigate a tight profit margin.

On Thursday, December 1, 2022 at 8pm ET/PT, HGTV premiered "The Final Flip," a one-hour FLIP OR FLOP special. Tarek and Christina take on one last project, a large duplex in Sunset Beach that proves to be one of their most expensive and challenging flips ever. Simultaneously, they take a fun look back at the important house flipping lessons learned, the craziest issues encountered and the stunning Southern California renovations completed together over 10 seasons of FLIP OR FLOP. For their final flip, Tarek and Christina go big when they purchase a costly property near the beach with plans to convert it from a duplex to a single-family home. The pair contend with layout issues, permit delays, mounting costs and the uncertainties of working with a new contractor to create a gorgeous property with a coastal contemporary design and views of the water.
