Plot Synopsis

MAN VS. THE UNIVERSE is a three-part series that explores how scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs are designing and building devices in the new race for space. Each one-hour episode focuses on a different initiative, including the bid to occupy Mars, to mine the Moon's fertile grounds, and to prevent asteroids from destroying life on Earth. This series goes inside the new race to the Moon, where Google is offering $30 million to the first privately funded teams to land a robot on the Moon, successfully travel more than 500 meters, and transmit high-definition images and video back to Earth. Then, this program shows how engineers and scientists are preparing for the next mega asteroid attack, similar to what killed off the dinosaurs. They are pushing the limits trying to create an enormous capture bag -- a robotic vehicle that will go out and snag an asteroid partway between Earth and Mars and drag it back to orbit the moon. Finally, MAN VS. THE UNIVERSE reveals how high-tech spacesuits are being created so humans can live comfortably in the Martian environment 24/7, while trying to turn soil on Mars into water.
