Plot Synopsis

Directed by Michael John Warren, LOLLA: THE STORY OF LOLLAPALOOZA is a three-part documentary that chronicles the symbiotic 30+ year relationship between the iconic festival and Perry Farrell, the frontman for Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros. In the summer of 1991, the Lollapalooza music festival was born. What started as a farewell tour for the band Jane's Addiction rose from the underground to launch a cultural movement and change music forever. Throughout the series, Farrell reconnects with what the event has become and reflects on the festival's cultural significance across multiple genres and decades. The three-part series made its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival and was later released by Paramount+ on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The three 45-minute episodes are:

"F*** the Man": Originally planned as a farewell tour for Jane's Addiction, the 1991 Lollapalooza music festival forever changes the music industry with its unconventional and iconic lineup and inadvertently gives birth to a cultural revolution.

"End of the Underground": Following the massive success of Lollapalooza in 1991, the festival explodes into the mainstream in the early 90s, featuring bands that become a soundtrack for an entire generation, including Pearl Jam, Rage Against The Machine, and The Beastie Boys.

"Surviving Success": Lollapalooza becomes the victim of copycats, as it struggles to survive in the late 90s. Determined to keep the festival going, Perry Farrell finds a new partner to help usher the festival into the 2000s, and expand its reach around the world.
