Plot Synopsis

Based on Viet Thanh Nguyen's book of the same name, THE SYMPATHIZER is a seven-episode espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren't over. Episodes include:

"Death Wish" (Sunday, April 14, 2024 at 9pm): With the fall of Saigon imminent, the Captain juggles the communist party, the South Vietnamese army, his CIA handler and his conscience.

"Good Little Asian" (Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 9pm): The Captain and his fellow Vietnamese refugees attempt to settle into life in Los Angeles. The defeated General grows suspicious and demands the Captain locate a mole he believes has infiltrated their ranks. While the Captain narrows in on a target, he reconnects with his former teacher, Professor Hammer, and meets his beguiling assistant, Ms. Mori.

"Love It or Leave It" (Sunday, April 28, 2024 at 9pm): With the General's order to eliminate the spy in their ranks weighing on him, the Captain seeks Bon's help to craft and execute a plan specifically timed for Independence Day. Later, at an upscale lunch, Claude introduces the Captain to the Auteur, who seeks the Captain's on-set consulting for his upcoming Hollywood movie about the war.

"Give Us Some Good Lines" (Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 9pm): As a reluctant consultant on a Hollywood film, the Captain navigates the egos and personalities of an increasingly chaotic production.

"All for One" (Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 9pm): After a lengthy stint at the hospital, the Captain discovers that the General has started recruiting for a secret military operation.

"The Oriental Mode of Destruction" (Sunday, May 19, 2024 at 9pm): Convinced that the General's military operation is doomed, the Captain searches for ways to expose the mission and save Bon.

"Endings Are Hard, Aren't They?" (Sunday, May 26, 2024 at 9pm): Back in Vietnam, the Captain is forced to tell his story...and confront the decisions that haunt his past.
