Plot Synopsis

Based on Alexander Rose's book "Washington's Spies" and set during the American Revolutionary War in the autumn of 1778, TURN tells the tale of a young New York farmer, Abe Woodhull, who bands together with a group of childhood friends -- Ben, Anna, and Caleb -- to form The Culper Ring, an unlikely group of spies who turn the tide in America's fight for independence. Abe is caught between loyalty to his Tory judge father, Richard, and respect for childhood friends who fight for the Patriot cause, and he's willing to risk everything to protect what he loves -- his wife Mary and their one-year-old son Thomas. Abe's friends are: Ben, a Yale-educated Continental Dragoon in Washington's army, who oversees a spy ring, testing his unshakable resolve; Anna, who married Selah Strong, a known Whig, in the wake of her broken engagement to Abe, which their fathers ended because of the families' political differences; and Caleb, a courier who is constantly at risk. TURN: WASHINGTON'S SPIES shifted to Monday nights for its second season, premiering on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT with a special two-hour episode, immediately following an all-day marathon (11am-9pm) of encore episodes from Season 1. The series then moves to Mondays at 10pm ET/PT for the remainder of its second season, which moves deeper into the battles waged by soldiers and civilians alike in the pursuit of freedom, and the sacrifices they're willing to make to secure it. As Abe becomes more committed to the Culper Ring activities, George Washington battles both personal demons and betrayal from within his ranks that threaten not only his leadership but the fate of the revolution. As the colonies struggle to become a nation, the outcome of the revolution will hinge on alliances both on and off the battlefield. In the two-episode Season 2 premiere, Abe wants to infiltrate New York City; Simcoe escapes punishment; and John Andre tries to seduce Peggy Shippen while in Philadelphia. Season 3 of TURN: WASHINGTON'S SPIES premiered on Monday, April 25, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on AMC. The series returns with an epic 10-episode season that builds towards one of the most notorious moments in American history -- the treasonous defection of Benedict Arnold. Behind enemy lines on Long Island, Abe Woodhull is a spy for the Patriots, reporting directly to George Washington. Embedded within the Continental Army, Benedict Arnold is seduced to become an informant for the British. As the consequences of their espionage ripple through the battlefield, the spy game becomes a heart-stopping race to see which mole will be unmasked first. In 1778, there is only one fate that awaits a captured spy -- the hangman's noose. The price for treason is blood, and not all of our heroes will survive. In the season opener, "Valediction," Abe covers up a murder with an unlikely accomplice. Benedict Arnold abuses his power as he settles into a new home in Philadelphia. The fourth and final season of TURN: WASHINGTON'S SPIES premiered on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT with a two-hour premiere. The ten-episode final season opens with notorious traitor Benedict Arnold taking his revenge on George Washington by rounding up suspected rebel spies to impress his new British commanders. Meanwhile, Abe Woodhull and the other members of the Culper Ring escape Arnold's clutches and unintended consequences compel Abe to seek revenge. For his side to prevail, he must forsake his bloodlust and turn his attention toward the one thing that truly matters: winning the war. In addition to Bell, Kahn and Yeoman, the series stars Seth Numrich as Ben Tallmadge, Daniel Henshall as Caleb Brewster, Heather Lind as Anna Strong, Meegan Warner as Mary Woodhull, Kevin R. McNally as Judge Richard Woodhull, Angus Macfadyen as Robert Rogers, Burn Gorman as Major Hewlett, Samuel Roukin as Captain John Simcoe, Ksenia Solo as Peggy Shippen and Nick Westrate as Robert Townsend will return for the final season.
