Plot Synopsis
Based on the book by Ruth Gruber. In 1944, Ruth Gruber, a young Jewish Interior Department official is assigned to escort 1,000 Holocaust survivors on a troop ship from war-torn Europe to an Army camp in Oswego, NY. The refugee's transitory settlement turns into a 17-month confinement. Determined to help the oppressed victims, she must battle an inflexible Washington bureaucracy and small-town prejudice.
