Plot Synopsis
As WWII sweeps across Europe, Italy and its leader Benito Mussolini find themselves drawn into the conflict. Mussolini feels he must honor his alliance with Hitler, over the protest of his Foreign Minister and husband of his beloved daughter. Eventually overruled by King Victor Emmanuel III he is arrested and jailed and his family is forced into hiding. Freed by German commandos and appointed by Hitler to head a new fascist regime in German-occupied northern Italy he is ultimately killed by partisans in the spring of 1945 after 23 years of dictatorship.
