Plot Synopsis

Based on the Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Elizabeth Stout. Over the course of 25 years in the New England town of Crosby, Maine, math teacher Olive Kitteridge, whose wicked wit and harsh demeanor mask a warm but troubled heart, constantly struggles with the changes of those around her. Especially her relationship with her husband, Henry, the good-hearted and kindly town pharmacist, who finds his loyalty to his marriage both a blessing and a curse. And with their son, Christopher, who resents his mother's approach to parenting and who feels tyrannized by her irrational sensitivities. Through illicit affairs, crime and tragedy, she is ultimately brought to a deeper understanding of herself and her life -- sometimes painfully, but always with ruthless honesty.
