Plot Synopsis

Based on the novel by William Boyd. In Britain, a high strung insurance loss adjuster finds his well-designed life in turmoil when he becomes involved in a hotel-fire case which leads him to uncover misdeeds involving his company. Wanting to look the other way he soon begins having a crisis of conscience. As his professional life begins to crumble he is forced to confront his true nature as he falls for a unhappily married actress.
