Plot Synopsis

Based on the play by Jane Anderson. In Louisiana, a woman, pregnant with her fifth child and living in a trailer with her unemployed husbands decides to give her baby up for adoption. She responds to an ad from a couple seeking a to adopt a healthy baby. When she goes into labor the couple rush to greet their new baby but complications during delivery leave the baby with the possibility of brain damage. Neither the adoptive parents or the birth mother want the child and abandoned it in the hospital.
