Plot Synopsis

At first glance, next-door neighbors Eric Redford and April Stewart couldn't be more different. He's a confirmed bachelor who drives a loud sports car and hosts a weekly poker game for the guys. In fact, he is the successful author of a string of books extolling the bachelor lifestyle. Oh, and he is not particularly fond of Christmas. She, on the other hand, teaches violin out of her home, plays weekly gigs with her sister, a cellist and wishes every day could be Christmas. Eric's mom Sarah has been taking care of his sister's two kids while their parents away but when a huge storm makes their timely return impossible and Sarah comes down with the flu, Eric is forced to move his niece and nephew over to his house. With a week leading up to Christmas, the kids inform their Uncle Eric that it is his job to "make Christmas" for them. Before long, Eric's self-described dislike of Christmas is severely challenged by their desire for a normal Christmas with all the trimmings. While suffering from write's block as he faces a looming deadline with his publisher, Eric gives in a little at first and agrees to get the kids a tree. With a lot of help from April, who is at her own professional crossroads and fearful about an upcoming audition for the symphony, the giant Christmas tree gets decorated. It isn't long before Eric starts getting into the spirit of the holiday. In fact, the only thing now missing from his perfect Christmas is April, who, in the middle of their budding romance, has suddenly and inexplicably cooled to Eric. He soon learns some valuable lessons about the value of family, love, and the joy of Christmas, as seen through the eyes of children.
