Plot Synopsis
Based on the novel by Catherine Marshall. In 1912 Tennessee, a well-bred, educated nineteen year old woman leaves the security of her comfortable home in Asheville, North Carolina and moves to a poverty-stricken Appalachia backwoods community to teach at a newly built mission school. She is met with distrust from the locals but with the help of a sympathetic minister she sets about to teach the ragged group of children.
