Plot Synopsis

Based on the novel by Jim Harrison. A free-spirited California social worker returns to her family's vast Nebraska ranch to find the son she gave up for adoption twenty years earlier. Her quest is sidetracked by two affairs: one with a head strong loner of Native American heritage; another with an alcoholic historian who is doing research on the Great Plains and eager to get his hands on her great-grandfather's long hidden diaries. Her odyssey of self-discovery enables her to resolve the past and get on with her life.
