Plot Synopsis

Based on the novel. A poor country girl leaves the farm after a family tragedy and goes to San Francisco to pursue a career in singing. While she becomes a big Hollywood star she pines for a married New York lawyer she once met at her sister's wedding and with whom she has an on again-off again romance over the course of fifteen years. They are finally reunited forever when he rids himself of his controlling wife and she gives up the glitter of stardom and returns to her rural roots .
