Plot Synopsis

The third installment in Hallmark Movies & Mysteries "Fixer Upper Mystery" movie franchise. After the local bank donates a long-abandoned property to Stepping Stones, a non-profit that provides low-cost housing to those in need, renovation expert extraordinaire Shannon Hughes agrees to lead the renovation of the property pro bono. When she and her mystery writer tenant, Mac Sullivan show up at the old Forrest house to drop of supplies, they discover the body of Charles Potter, the bank's president who, by the way, was in opposition of the property donation, and overridden by the bank's board of directors. Throughout Lighthouse Cove, it seems a lot of people are not unhappy about Potter's death; as president of the bank that held many mortgages, including the one on Whitney Sloan's bookstore, he was an unforgiving creditor. When it is discovered that Jim Hopkins, a man who along with his teenage son, will be occupying one of the newly renovated apartments, was spotted leaving the scene of the homicide and had argued with Potter earlier in the day, he becomes the prime suspect. However, as Shannon and Mac conduct their own investigation while the police conduct their own, the amateur sleuths soon discover a long list of people in Lighthouse Cover who not only had reason to wish Potter dead but who seem downright happy that he is. Shady dealings, an altered appraisal, illegal kickbacks, a secret safety deposit box and some home repossessions lead Mac and Shannon through a circuitous labyrinth of discovery, not only about the murderer, but also about the feelings they might have for each other. Following several visits to Potter's office, Shannon has what she is certain is the final clue to finding the killer. What follows next is a chase to the finish, as Mac and Shannon attempt to reach the desperate killer and to bring them to justice before another life is needlessly lost.
