Plot Synopsis

Based on the 1989 novel by Terry McMillan. A music teacher moves into a Brooklyn apartment with the help of a odd-job construction worker who has just refinished the apartment's floors. They soon fall in love and start living together. Their relationship is soon threatened by her preoccupation with becoming a singer-songwriter and his lack of resources . Confronted with myriad financial, social and job-related challenges the couple is forced to test the strength of their love.
