Plot Synopsis
In 1860, celebrated actress Fanny Kemble moves her family from Philadelphia to Georgia where her husband owns a plantation. Witnessing the horrors of slavery, she becomes a staunch abolitionist, helping slaves escape through the underground railroad. She returns to Philadelphia after divorcing her outraged husband. In 1863 her journal about the injustices of slavery is published to great controversy, causing the British government to stop their aid to the Confederacy.
