Plot Synopsis

Four Amish teenagers living in rural Pennsylvania are given the opportunity to spend 30 days in Los Angeles to experience Rumspringa or rite of passage. Mary, Isaac and Sara are excited to make the trip, but Hannah is reluctant to leave her father and her siblings, because she does all the household chores since their mother died. She has also been "betrothed" to Samuel since she was a little girl and he does not want her to leave. Once in Los Angeles, they all marvel at the latest technology and soon begin to enjoy their newfound freedom. Hannah is encouraged to spread her wings and go to a party, where she meets Josh, a young college student. Eventually the two begin to have feelings for each other and on their last night together, Hannah and Josh make love. She tells him she wants to stay with him but she needs time to tell her father and Samuel of her decision. In the Amish culture, when you leave the community for a life outside, you are shunned forever. Once home, she finds it difficult to find a way to tell her father and Samuel she is leaving. Several months go by and Hannah discovers she is pregnant with Josh's child. Samuel discovers her secret and begs her to stay, even agreeing to raise the child as his own. Tired of waiting, Josh drives across country to see Hannah and begs her to leave with him. She now must make a choice that could change her life forever.
