Plot Synopsis

Austen is an American archeologist following a lead in Malta in hopes of securing a project that will guarantee his tenure. Eva is a local Maltese beekeeper who has followed in her later mother's footsteps in running her family apiary. When a "bee-mergency" leads Eva to the local library, she and Austen discover that the spot where the hive is hiding just might hold the clues to a major local archaeological mystery. Though Austen is convinced of the find's importance, the bees are nationally protected and he is only permitted to continue studying the location under Eva's watch. Though Eva is initially reluctant to help Austen, who has demonstrated an aversion to bees, her knowledge of the island turns out to be exactly what Austen needs to research this new find. As Eva helps Austen, he gains a new appreciation for the ecological and cultural significance of the bees she has devoted her life to and they begin to fall in love.
