Plot Synopsis
Based on the novel by Julia Alvarez. In the Dominican Republic, the Mirabal sisters leave a life of comfort to become political dissidents and fight against dictator Rafael Leonid Trujillo's regime. They are and incarcerated many times and finally brutally murdered as a result of their political activities in 1960. Their bravery became the inspiration for the revolution which resulted in Trujillo's assassination in 1961.
