Plot Synopsis

Outside Moose Ridge, Oregon, firefighter Pete Garsette waits for his brother, Sam, to arrive for their hometown's Independence Day celebration. Joining him are Sam's teenage son Andrew and his school friends Eliza and Nick, plus the Secret Service. This is no ordinary visit -- Pete's brother is the President of the United States. But before Sam can land, the earth shakes and a giant alien machine erupts out of the ground. Pete manages to get the kids out safely with the Secret Service, but the town is annihilated. Sam's helicopter rushes away from the chaos, but he soon learns that the machines are appearing all over the world and the devastation is global. The Secret Service convoy with Andrew, Eliza, and Nick is soon attacked as well, leaving the kids as the only survivors. Nick is critically wounded, and it's up to Andrew and Eliza to dodge the alien invaders and find help for their friend. Meanwhile, Pete encounters Cella, a scientist from SETI, who thinks she has a device that could disrupt the aliens' communication network. When it turns out the device shuts down the drones completely, Pete realizes they have a weapon, the only one in the world that works against the seemingly invulnerable aliens. Now this small group of patriots must come together to defeat the greatest threat America -- and the world -- has ever known.
