Plot Synopsis
Based on the book by Louisa May Alcott. In 1870 an indigent, orphaned young woman finds a home with an affluent Massachusetts couple where she serves as a companion to their only daughter. Not more than a servant, her social position makes it difficult for her to accept the attentions of a rich bachelor. An ambitious, scheming cousin of the family plots to snare the wealthy young man for herself. The rules of love, wealth and rank take a surprising turn when it is reveled that the poor inferior girl is heir to the entire family fortune.
