Plot Synopsis
Loretta Claiborne was born into a large, poor African-American single-parent family. Partially blind, mildly retarded, unable to walk or talk until the age of four, Loretta went on to become a Special Olympics champion , teacher and passionate advocate for those with mental and and physical disabilities. The discovery of her own running ability and the encouragement of a feisty social worker change her life, culminating in her receiving the 1996 Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at the ESPY Awards.
