Plot Synopsis

Single dad Eric has promised son Owen that they can adopt a dog on this, the last day of the PTA's pet adoption event, while single mom Kate has promised daughter Sophia the same thing. When both realize their kids have fallen in love with the same dog, and that Bruce is the only dog left for adoption, they agree to co-foster him for a month. Eric and Kate couldn't be more different. At the first custody handoff, Eric gives Kate an entire roster of detailed rules concerning Bruce's care and training. Free spirit that she is, Kate's plans include feeding, housing and lots of fun. She agrees to obedience training, and to volunteer for the upcoming PTA carnival. Thanks to shared custody of they spend more and more time together, and they are always bantering back and forth. Kate realizes she is really starting to like Eric in a way that scares her, and Eric and girlfriend Bianca decide they aren't right for each other. At the carnival, a smash success thanks to Kate's art direction, Eric asks her out on a real date and she accepts. The next day, however, Kate tells Eric that she wants to back off the date because she doesn't want Sophia to become attached to someone who might not be in the picture for the long-run. Next time they hand off Bruce, they are both sad and perfunctory about it. Kate realizes she is acting out of fear of getting hurt, decides to cast that fear aside, and invites Eric on a date. Kate reveals her true feelings about love, which are obviously directed at Eric. And, just maybe, deciding which family gets final custody of Bruce won't be a tough decision after all. Also starring Zip as Bruce (the dog)
