Plot Synopsis

Based on the play by P'nenah Goldstein. A successful 30-year old doctor is stunned to learn of the death of his older, estranged Hasidic rabbi brother. Not religious and a virtual stranger to his brother's young widow, Leah, he is shocked when he is asked to honor an ancient Hebrew marriage law. As a single man he is expected to marry the childless Leah or else deny his brother's existence. To fulfill his obligation, despite being in a serious relationship, he cooks up a scheme to marry Leah and maintain a secret platonic relationship, which Leah gladly accepts. They soon find that the harder they work to disguise their "pretend" marriage, the more their real love for each other grows.
