Plot Synopsis

Based on the true crime story, the movie explores the inner lives and motivation behind the murders of Beverly Hills entertainment executive Jose Menendez and his wife Kitty at the hands of their sons Lyle (18 years old) and Erik (21 years old) in 1989. The movie reveals new details about the extreme abuse the brothers endured at their father's hands, all while their mother looked the other way. The brothers are currently serving a life sentence without parole for murdering their parents. Immediately following the premiere at 10pm ET/PT, Lifetime airs the one-hour special, "Beyond the Headlines: Murder in the Family," that follows five stories of children who killed a parent. What really drove the Menendez brothers, Stacey Ann Lannert, Tylar Witt, Bart Whitaker and Tyler Hadley to murder their parents? Was it revenge for years of abuse? Or, did it just boil down to greed? While experts re-examine the evidence in each case, leading psychologists will also take a deeper look into the methods and motives of what might have driven these individuals to commit murder because the truth isn't always, as it seems.
