Plot Synopsis

Based on the novella by Gigi Garrett. Holly Khun, known to all of Chicago as "Miss Christmas," is the Creative Director of the Radcliffe Center and it is her job to find a magnificent Christmas tree for the plaza. But this year a crane has damaged the 95-foot spruce she was transporting and now she must locate another tree for the lighting ceremony just 10 days away. But with the holiday season in full swing, all the trees left are too short or shedding needles and Holly is beginning to wonder if the only thing harder than finding the perfect tree is finding the perfect man. Hoping for a Christmas miracle, she begins combing through hundreds of letters from fans who send photos of trees, hoping theirs will be chosen for the ceremony, and finally one from eight-year-old Joey McNary from Klaus, Wisconsin, makes her eyes light up. The boy's tree is perfect, if only his letter had a return address. Determined to find the tree, she sets off to Klaus the next day and, unbeknownst to her, one of the volunteers setting up for the town's elaborate Christmas festival is handsome Sam McNary Joey's father. In their brief, but flirtatious, encounter, the two learn they're not only attracted to one another, but also they have opposite opinions about Christmas. He thinks the holiday is just about opening presents, and she thinks it's all about opening hearts. He takes her to see the tree, which is indeed perfect, and shows his parents' initials carved into the trunk. Now that his mom has passed, he wants this symbol of his their love to stay on the farm. Sam's father says Holly should present her case and the family will vote, but time is running out. Her boss has told her that if she can't get the tree to Chicago in three days she needn't bother coming back. Joey, his aunt and his grandpa are all for letting Holly take the tree, and even Sam is coming around, but as she gets to know the family, Holly isn't sure she's convinced the tree should go. She's also not sure she wants to go back to Chicago. It's so peaceful in Klaus and Holly is thinking that while she came looking for the perfect tree, she might have actually found the perfect man and the perfect place to call home.
