Plot Synopsis

Nineteen year old college dropout, Eddie Keating is forced to join the service by his exasperated parents after he repeatedly gets in trouble with the law. He becomes an outstanding Marine recruit but while on a training mission he is accidentally shot in the head and paralyzed. Placed in a decrepit , understaffed VA hospital his mother, Carole fights the military bureaucracy to have her son transferred to a special rehab facility. With the proper care the boy makes great progress and learns to walk with the help of an experimental electrical stimulation device.
