Plot Synopsis
Based on the book by William Faulkner. In 1928 rural Mississippi, after a disastrous flood, a group of prisoners are sent to the area to help shore up a levee. One convict is ordered to take a boat upriver to save a pregnant single woman. On the way back they get lost while she gives birth in the Bayou. As he falls in love with the new mother, he must decide whether to take the opportunity to escape with her or keep his word and serve out his time. He honorably returns to prison while his beloved vows to wait for his release.
