Plot Synopsis
In 1951 Florida, dirt poor tenant framers are arrested for an unpaid grocery bill by the towns odious sheriff. They are sentenced to seven years hard labor and their children are made wards of the state and placed in a cruelly run orphanage. With a the help of a benevolent lawyer they eventually win their release but must fight to gain custody of their three daughters. A young reporter takes up their cause, helping them to overturn a corrupt and unlawful system.
