Plot Synopsis

Based on the novel by Beverly Lewis. Before she succumbs to cancer, the dying wish of Laura Mayfield-Bennett is to be reunited with the daughter she gave up for adoption 24 years ago. Unfortunately, that daughter, Katie Lapp, is a member of the Amish order about to be married to the town's bishop, but is uneasy about her choice. She is known in the community for not always adhering to the rules of the religious township. As she struggles to accept a life of sacrifices she is often in conflict with, she discovers her parents have kept a secret from her: she is adopted. And the revelation that her birth mother is searching for her complicates things still further. As a result of Katie's headstrong ways and her separating from her community's strict customs, she is ostracized by all.
