Plot Synopsis

In the summer of 1956, a 12 year old boy goes to a rural South Carolina town to visit his three great aunts, one of whom has never progressed past the mental age of six. The sensitive young man and the brain damaged woman form a tender friendship which eventually allows her to confront the repressed, violent details of her past and recall the terrible events that led to her mental retardation.
