Plot Synopsis
Based on the book ''The Terrible Hours'' by Peter Maas. On May 23, 1939 U.S. Navy submarine the USS ''Squalus'' sank to the bottom of the ocean during a training exercise off Portsmouth, N.H. Miraculously, 33 of the 57 crewmembers under the command of Capt. Oliver Naquim survived, but faced freezing conditions, rising carbon monoxide levels and an oxygen supply of only 48 hrs. A daring rescue operation led by Lt. Cmdr. Charles ''Swede'' Momsen eventually saves the trapped sailors.
