Plot Synopsis

Based on the play by Stephen Sachs. Dan Miller and his deaf wife Laura only want what's best for their happy and healthy 8-year-old son, who's been deaf since age four. Dan, who is hearing, becomes intrigued by cochlear implants that may make it possible after surgery for the boy to hear sounds. He feels the operation would be worth the risk and would make his son's life easier and more complete. Laura is vehemently against the procedure believing it would make her son feel like he is abnormal. Their opposite views eventually cause their marriage to fall apart resulting in a heated custody battle.
