Plot Synopsis

Based on the book by Flora Rheta Schreiber and remake of the 1976 NBC TV movie. After a suicide attempt, Sybil is introduced to psychiatrist Dr. Cornelia Wilbur, and during their sessions, she confides that she frequently loses her memory and can't account for large blocks of time. Over the course of treatment Dr. Wilbur encounters 16 different personalities that Sybil created to cope with the physical, emotional and sexual abuse to which she was subjected as a child by her mentally disturbed mother. During 11 years of treatment from 1954-1964 Sybil and Dr. Wilbur work to integrate the multiple personalities and establish one healthy identity.
