Plot Synopsis

In 1930, A. Philip Randolp an ardent socialist and radical publisher tries unsuccessfully to organize black workers to establish a union of railway porters who worked for the Pullman company. He refuses to accept defeat even though the Pullman company's head begins a ruthless compaign to kill the union. Although thwarted at evey turn he rallies the porters to continue to fight and eventually gets the American Federaton of Labor to recongize the Brotherhood which numbered 10,000 workers.
