Why Prom Sucked For Amber Holt: Despite initially criticizing the idea of prom, Amber decided to go to the dance where she ran into an old friend who brought up a sore subject -- her college plans. Having not been accepted into any colleges, Amber became very angry and left prom shortly after arriving. To make matters worse, upon returning home, Amber and her mother had a harsh argument about her plans for the future.

Prom Disaster Rating: 1 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) In the grand scheme of things, Amber’s life could have been much worse. She went to prom and was having a good time until her night came to an abrupt end.

Episode: "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" (first aired: March 12, 1972 on ABC)

Why Prom Sucked For Richie Cunningham: Newly single Richie went to the prom with his ex-girlfriend Arlene as "just friends." At the dance, Richie spent almost the entire night alone by the punch bowl, but Arlene was busy dancing with other guys. Even Richie’s friends, Potsie and Ralph, asked her to dance in clear violation of the guy code. By the end of the night, both Richie and Arlene realized their mistake in breaking up, they ended up sharing the last dance together, and they snuck to one of the "make out spots" in the gym!

Prom Disaster Rating: 2 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) Richie and Arlene took awhile to realize that neither of them knew why they even broke up. However, the night ended the way it was supposed to -- and the punch even got spiked!

Episode: "Prom Night" (first aired: March 7, 1999 on FOX)

Why Prom Sucked For Jackie Burkhart: Jackie and Kelso broke up a few weeks before prom, so Kelso decided to anger Jackie by taking school slut Pam Macy. Devastated and without a date, Jackie begged Hyde to take her to the dance, where she and Kelso fought, eventually worked out their differences and shared the last dance.

Prom Disaster Rating: 3 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) Jackie and Kelso ended up together, but the night was uncomfortable -- until the very end. And even though Jackie and Kelso left their dates, Hyde happily took Pam off Kelso's hands.

Episode: "The Prom" (first aired: May 11, 1999 on WB)

Why Prom Sucked For Buffy Summers: Buffy and her boyfriend Angel broke up right before prom, and Buffy was absolutely crushed -- but how could a vampire slayer date a vampire anyways? After hell hounds threatened students at her high school, Buffy sacrificed her prom night to keep her friends safe and to give them "a nice, fun, normal evening." She ended up missing all but the last dance, which she shared with Angel.

Prom Disaster Rating: 4 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) A classic break-up-and-get-back-together-for-the last-dance prom episode, which was just bloodier and more death-defying than most.  But Buffy's night wasn’t a total loss as her classmates named her "class protector."

Episode: "Prom Night" (first aired: May 4, 1993 on ABC)

Why Prom Sucked For DJ Tanner: DJ attended prom with her boyfriend Steve; however, his ex-girlfriend Rachel proved to be a nuisance. Steve and Rachel were named prom king and queen, and DJ saw Rachel kiss Steve during their King-and-Queen dance. DJ immediately ran to her Aunt Becky to break down in tears so she didn’t see Steve push away Rachel and proclaim his love for DJ.

Prom Disaster Rating: 5 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) DJ's night looked like it was going to be devastating, but Steve made the incredible save of the night by telling DJ, "I didn’t know what love meant until I met you." Then they finished the night dancing to Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You."

Episode: "Prom-ises, Prom-ises" (first aired: May 1, 1998 on ABC)

Why Prom Sucked For Cory Matthews: Cory’s parents spontaneously checked into a hotel room to rekindle their flames of love -- or whatever it is that parents do. Coincidentally, this room was right next to the one Cory booked for his special night with his girlfriend, Topanga. In an emotionally scarring and hilarious mix-up, Cory and his father mistakenly took the wrong room keys, and Cory’s father walked in on Topanga in lingerie and Cory saw his mother in something similar.

Prom Disaster Rating: 6 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) Not only was the whole night awkward because of Cory and Topanga's mutual fear of having sex, but now Cory might imagine the horror of seeing his mother in lingerie whenever he thinks about prom.

Episode: "A Night to Remember" (first aired: April 28, 1993 on FOX)

Why Prom Sucked For Donna Martin: The West Beverly Hills High faculty instated a rule that any senior found to be intoxicated at prom would not be allowed to walk at the graduation ceremony. Plus, Donna and her boyfriend David were stressing whether or not they would have sex on prom night. They finally agreed to do it, but the pressure of such a big life-changing event got to Donna and she drank too much at a pre-prom party, got sick at prom, and was busted for being drunk.

Prom Disaster Rating: 7 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) Donna faced suspension from her own graduation, and the episode ended with Donna saying, "Guys, am I in trouble?" Yes, Donna, you are.

Episode: "The Anti-Prom" (first aired: May 17, 2000 on WB)

Why Prom Sucked For Dawson Leary: Trying to win her back, Dawson asked his best friend and former girlfriend Joey to prom, using their freshman-year pact as an excuse. When Joey felt like Dawson had her on display, she ran out and later returned to ask Pacey to dance, which Dawson took as a direct insult since he and Pacey weren't speaking after an earlier fight over Joey. The night ended with Dawson and Joey yelling at each other, because Dawson still had feelings for Joey.

Prom Disaster Rating: 7.5 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) Dawson didn't get his girl, and he had to watch his two best friends dance together as they shared the moment he wanted.

Episode: "The O.Sea" (first aired: May 12, 2005 on FOX)

Why Prom Sucked For Seth Cohen: Seth and Zach Stevens flipped a coin to decide who took Summer Roberts to the prom and who met STAR WARS creator George Lucas. They realized they made the wrong choice, and after a pep talk from George Lucas, Seth rushed to prom just in time to see Summer crowned Queen. But Seth's night turned into shambles as when his grandfather died of a heart attack and his mom, a recovering alcoholic, spiraled out of control into an alcoholic rage, creating a huge rift in the Cohen family.

Prom Disaster Rating: 8 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) It wasn't all bad. Seth got to meet George Lucas and he ended up with the girl, but his prom night ended with death and mayhem.

Episode: "Just Say Yo" (first aired: February 15, 1993 on NBC)

Why Prom Sucked For Carlton Banks: At the prom, Carlton searched for Vitamin E pills in Will’s locker to help treat his "crater-like" forehead pimple, and he unknowingly took Speed. After Carlton became the life of the prom with his unbelievably fast dance moves, he fainted and was rushed to the hospital to be treated for a drug overdose.

Prom Disaster Rating: 9 (1=HSM; 10=CARRIE) Luckily for Carlton, no one died at Bel-Air Academy’s prom, but he "could have died" -- as Will and Uncle Phil reminded us later in the episode.
