Plot Synopsis

12.12.12: THE CONCERT FOR SANDY RELIEF was a one-night-only benefit concert that raised funds to help millions of people throughout the tri-state area who were affected by Hurricane Sandy. Simulcast live around the world on more than 20 U.S. TV networks, on websites like YouTube, and in movie theaters, at least two billion people worldwide had the opportunity to watch this music event. The concert, held in NYC's Madison Square Garden, opened with Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band going onstage at 7:30pm ET, followed by (but not in this order): Billy Joel, Kanye West, Jon Bon Jovi, Alicia Keys, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, The Who, Roger Waters, Chris Martin (Coldplay), Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), and many more. In addition to these musicians who donated their time and talent to the cause, these celebrities were scheduled to make appearances: Adam Sandler, Billy Crystal, Brian Williams, Chelsea Clinton, Chris Rock, Jake Gyllenhaal, Jeremy Piven, Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart, Sean Combs and more. Plus, stars, like the cast of THE SOPRANOS, were on hand to answer phones, taking donations for Robin Hood Foundation's Sandy Relief Fund. Hurricane Sandy, which made landfall on Monday, October 29, 2012 just south of Atlantic City, NJ, was estimated to cost New Jersey $29.4 billion in business, tourism, personal property, and infrastructure. To help the people in the tri-state area recover, the Robin Hood Relief Foundation launched a large-scale effort to aid those whose lives had been shattered by Sandy. Within hours of the superstorm, Robin Hood-funded non-profits were providing blankets, hot food, heaters, generators and more to residents in Red Hook, Coney Island, the Rockaways and all across the region. One month after the storm, Robin Hood had already provided over $8 million in grants to more than 90 different groups, but so many people are still homeless and too many towns still need to rebuild. Because of the generosity of concert organizers, and sponsors, every single penny from ticket purchases and donations will go to the best community organizations serving the victims of Hurricane Sandy through the Robin Hood Relief Fund.
