Plot Synopsis

The sixth installment of AMERICAN HORROR STORY premiered without a subtitle for the first time, and the plot and cast was kept secret. All official episode synopses from FX for the first five episodes -- all released before the premiere episode -- simply stated "The FX limited series, AMERICAN HORROR STORY, returns for a sixth installment," while listing different writers and directors for each episode. The premiere episode was written by Ryan Murphy & Brad Falchuk and directed by Bradley Buecker. The season opener revealed the story revolves around a documentary series entitled "My Roanoke Nightmare," re-enacting the experiences of a couple, Shelby and Matt Miller, who relocated from Los Angeles to Roanoke Island, North Carolina, where the couple experiences the supernatural in their new home.
On October 3, 2017 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment released AMERICAN HORROR STORY: ROANOKE on DVD and Blu-ray. Life imitates grisly reality TV in one of television's edgiest and most acclaimed shows ever. Told in gripping true-crime documentary style, "My Roanoke Nightmare" -- this season's show within the show -- chronicles shocking paranormal events. Hoping to begin a peaceful new life in a rustic North Carolina farmhouse, Shelby and Matt Miller flee Los Angeles, only to find murder, mayhem and madness! From a girl ghost to a swine monster to murderous nurse sisters to a sadistic cult leader known as "The Butcher" the couple's home is filled with nonstop terrors.
