Plot Synopsis

AMERICAN JUSTICE looks at recent criminal cases in the United States through the prism of the criminal justice system, and from the first-hand perspectives of the prosecutors, defense attorneys, investigators, victims and perpetrators involved. The series dives into significant crimes that were adjudicated within the last few years, from trials that made national headlines to gripping lesser-known cases, ensuring that the issues being explored are relevant. Each story reveals how our justice system works, and, sometimes, how it doesn't. Debuting in 1992, the series aired for 13 years on A&E in its original run.

After more than 15 years, AMERICAN JUSTICE returned for a new season on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on A&E. Narrated by Dennis Haysbert, the new season is a re-imagined version of the original series. This new batch of episodes is called Season 15 on the A&E schedule and other listings services, and the A&E series webpage calls the episodes a "new season." In the season opener, "Friends Til the End," when 19-year-old aspiring artist Sarah Stern goes missing just weeks before Christmas 2016, investigators initially suspect she may have died by suicide or run away from home. Then, in January 2017, one of Sarah's former high school classmates comes forward with chilling information that leads to an undercover police sting and the shocking arrests of two very familiar faces. Armed with a bombshell, caught-on-tape confession from one of the suspects and the damning testimony of the other, Monmouth County, New Jersey prosecutors face the uphill task of trying to secure a murder conviction without a body for only the second time in the state's history. Features interviews include Sarah's father, detectives and prosecutors, along with complete access to archival materials detailing the search and the undercover sting operation. Following a six-month break, AMERICAN JUSTICE returned with new episodes on Friday, March 25, 2022 at 10pm ET/PT on A&E. In the mid-season premiere, "Fame, Football, Fatality," in a murder case that makes headlines around the globe, a professional football player stands accused of killing his friend in cold blood.
