Plot Synopsis

From filmmakers Felicity Morris and Bernadette Higgins, AMERICAN NIGHTMARE is a three-part documentary that tells the story of California couple who were accused of staging a home invasion and kidnapping. On March 23, 2015, Denise Huskins and her boyfriend, Aaron Quinn, were woken in the dead of night by a home invader. Huskins was kidnapped, with many comparing it to GONE GIRL, the 2014 film adapted from Gillian Flynn's 2012 novel. Law enforcement claimed the young couple's recounting of the events was too far-fetched for anyone to believe. Why did the victims seem so calm? Was it all a hoax? This three-parter unravels the consequences of America's cultural rush to judgment, and the damage done when law enforcement decides the truth can't possibly be true. All three episodes of AMERICAN NIGHTMARE dropped on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 on Netflix.
