Plot Synopsis

From tattoo and street artists to mechanics and mixologists, this weekly half-hour series profiles people whose boundary-pushing work elevates their efforts to the level of art. THE ART OF... explores the creative process behind each featured art form, revealing the passion that keeps these artists motivated and inspired. On Friday, May 31, 2013 at 9pm ET, Ovation aired a sneak-peek episode, "The Art of Tattoo," that looked at one artist who helps breast-cancer survivors with medical tattoos and followed another who focuses on tribal and spiritual symbols. More than a month later, Ovation debuted the official series premiere of this series on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 8pm ET, with an episode, "The Art of Graffiti," that featured graffiti artists Sand One and Man One as well as Joe Connolly, the world's leading authority on graffiti. THE ART OF returned for its second season on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 10pm ET/7pm PT, with a "Costume Design" episode, which included segments on: a family of designers that create hundreds of Halloween costumes; and two artists who style stars of theater and pop music. Later in Season 2, THE ART OF featured episodes about "Fashion", "Dessert," "Hair," "Burlesque," and more. Ovation aired "Brewing," the first episode of Season 3, on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at 7:30pm ET/4:30 PT. Subsequent episodes in the third season include: "Comics"; "3D"; and more. THE ART OF returned for its fourth season on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 10pm ET/7pm PT on Ovation. The season opener, "Vegas," introduces the design team that created the fountains of the Bellagio, gets gluttonous at the Cosmopolitans world famous Wicked Spoon food hall, and reveals what it takes to be a showgirl at the last classic showgirl revue in Vegas. Subsequent episodes in Season 4 highlight: beaches; automobiles; comedy; drag; and music. Ovation premiered the fifth season of THE ART OF... on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at 8pm ET/5pm PT. This season, the series travels across the country for a look at how meditation gurus have turned relaxation into a fine art; how various styles of dance have taken shape; how illumination mixes art and science to dramatic effect in installations large and small; and how Japanese, Chinese and Italian chefs approach the art of noodle-making differently. The season opener, "The Art Of: Relaxation," takes a look at the benefits of meditation and how it affects the mind and body by meeting with the Allied Awareness program. Next, healer Jamie Ford performs a sound bath, a different and unexpected way to find relaxation, and an interior designer turns one woman's bathroom into an at-home spa oasis.
