Plot Synopsis

BACKYARD OIL is a reality series that follows the fortunes of oil men in Appalachia, as they drill for oil in the backyards of Kentucky homes, making up to $300,000 a month for each landowner. There's a modern-day oil boom hitting Kentucky and people are racing to enlist the services of these oil men to make them millions. Most think they have oil, few find it, and it's up to this motley crew to fight until the bid is won and the next great monster oil well is drilled. The series follows: mogul Jimmy Reliford, who has survived for more than 30 years in Kentucky's oil business and now runs one of the state's largest drilling companies; his sidekick, Brent 'Mad Dog' Yates, a fifth-generation Yates family driller, who has drilled thousands of oil wells in his day; Travis Coomer, who's raking in $300-thousand a month thanks to an oil strike in his own backyard -- and who's willing to risk it all by striking a second well; bearded hillbilly John Rascal, who struck three wells on his property and has one more shot to strike it rich; Dan and Ken Page, a father-son team, who dabbled in real estate, ostrich trade and oil over the years, but it took more than 30 years for Dan to convince his son to follow in his oily footsteps; and Christie Keltner, a local gospel singer nicknamed Dolly Parton Jr., who auctioned off her mineral rights to Jimmy Reliford after she had a dream that God told her she had oil on her land.
