Plot Synopsis

Created by Jonathan Krisel, Louis C.K., and Zach Galifianakis, BASKETS is a half-hour comedy series that follows Chip Baskets, a man who becomes a rodeo clown in Bakersfield, CA, after moving home from Paris, where he faced financial difficulties and an impenetrable language barrier in French Clown School. Once home, he competes with his siblings for the approval of his mother, Christine, while dealing with the issues of having an increasingly present, judgmental family. Chip's non-identical twin brother, Dale, even leaves his daughters in his care for a while, consequences be damned. Chip's French sophisticate wife, Penelope, is a bohemian artist who comes from money -- and only married Chip for a green card. The rodeo's owner, Eddie, sees something in Chip and often offers him cowboy wisdom to help solve his problems. And Chip's insurance claims adjuster, Martha, would say that she and Chip are friends -- but he would not say the same.

The sophomore season of BASKETS premiered on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on FX. In the second season, the Baskets family is at its most fragile. Losing his wife and his rodeo job, Chip jumps on a train to get the hell out of Bakersfield, but a gang of gutter punks, the police, and a sudden death drag him right back into the drama he tried to escape. Dale's marriage crumbles as his unrequited love affair with Martha deepens, and Christine, who dedicated her life to her sons with little affection in return, takes her own happiness into consideration for once - and finds romance on the way.

Season 3 of BASKETS premiered on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on FX. Nothing brings a family together like a family business -- or at least that was the plan. Welcome to the Baskets Family Rodeo, where Christine is the President and CEO despite never having seen a rodeo before. Chip has his first full-time gig since Arby's, but can barely transfer a phone call, let alone recruit much-needed clowns. And even though Dale is the only one in the family who has run a business, he can't get anyone to listen to him -- his family, the employees, or the horses.

BASKETS returned for its fourth and final season on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on FX. Big changes are underway for the Baskets family. After 49 years, Chip decides it's finally time to move out of his mom's place. But even with the help of Martha and a life coach, he learns that leaving the nest is hard, to say the least. Christine and Ken move into a new place they can call their own, but carpet emergencies and missing kitchen magnets make the transition rockier than expected. And Dale has found kindred spirits with his fellow inhabitants at the RV park. In the season opener, "Cat People," written and directed by Jonathan Krisel, Susan nearly kills Ronald Reagan.
