Plot Synopsis

Inspired by the songs of the Beatles and created by Josh Wakely, BEAT BUGS is a half-hour animated series for kids that incorporates songs from the Lennon/McCartney 'Northern Songs' catalog, telling uplifting and life-affirming stories filled with hope and melody. The Beat Bugs are charming, funny, adventurous, and have a knack for getting themselves into mischief and mayhem. Each of the five friends -- Jay, Kumi, Crick, Buzz, and Walter -- has a distinctive personality, and they display the charm and energy of five lovable kids. They are best friends who band together to explore and learn in an overgrown suburban backyard, which to them is their entire universe. The series features some of the most well-known Beatles songs woven into the narrative of each episode, with Eddie Vedder, P!nk, James Bay, Sia, The Shins, Of Monsters and Men, Chris Cornell, Regina Spektor and James Corden each recording their rendition of an iconic song. Among the songs featured include Help!, All You Need Is Love, Come Together, Penny Lane, Yellow Submarine, Lucy In the Sky with Diamonds, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Magical Mystery Tour. Netflix will launch the U.S. premiere of the 13-episode first season of BEAT BUGS on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT. On Friday, November 18 -- three months after the series debuted -- Netflix released the entire second season of BEAT BUGS at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT. Season 2 features covers by Rod Stewart, Jennifer Hudson, Of Monsters and Men, Chris Cornell, Regina Spektor, Tori Kelly, and more. On Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Netflix released "All Together Now," a BEAT BUGS holiday special. Just in time for kids and parents to enjoy over the holiday break, Netflix is bringing back some of the band's most beloved tunes for a 48-minute special, in which the Beat Bugs venture outside the garden to attend a prestigious talent show. The special features an original cover of "Here Comes the Sun" by Yusuf/Cat Stevens and other original covers including "I Want to Hold Your Hand," "All Together Now," and "Ticket to Ride."

Season 3 debuted on Friday, November 9, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Netflix released 26 new 15-minute episodes. This season, music keeps the Beat Bugs going and points the way to problem-solving solutions in another season of fun and adventure. In the season opener, "A Day in the Life," after Jay bonks his head and loses his memory, Lucy and the Beat Bugs work together to try and help him remember who he is. Season 3 features vocal performances by Marian Hill, Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens), Noah Kahan, Chloe Kohanski, and Welshly Arms belting out tunes from the Lennon/McCartney "Northern Songs" catalog, including "Let It Be," "Day in the Life," "Hey Jude," "Paperback Writer," "Yesterday," "Revolution," and "Long and Winding Road."
