Plot Synopsis

Each April since 2013, DIY Network has aired a one-hour special that explores the building process for the HGTV Smart Home, just before the sweepstakes period opens for the home that will be given away to one lucky person in August. A DIY/HGTV Network host -- Anitra Mecadon in 2013, Chris Lambton from 2014-2016 and Jeff Devlin in 2017-- takes viewers behind the scenes of the entire building process -- from the selection of the location, to the planning, construction, and furnishing of every room.

BEHIND THE BUILD: HGTV SMART HOME 2017 premiered on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at 11pm ET/PT on DIY Network. Located in Scottsdale, Arizona, this upscale community has over 200 golf courses, 100 art galleries, 600 restaurants and more spas per capita than any other US city. Host Jeff Devlin, along with interior designer Tiffany Brooks and tech guru Carley Knobloch give viewers a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to plan, design and build the most technologically advanced home in the country.
