Plot Synopsis

Each year since 2001, Black Entertainment Television (BET) has honored superlative triumphs and successes of artists, entertainers and athletes in 20 categories, featuring performances by the biggest names in R&B, hip-hop and gospel. The 13th annual awards, hosted by actor and comedian Chris Tucker, were broadcast live on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 8pm ET (tape delay at 8pm PT) from Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, CA. The 2013 awards show included performances by Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, R. Kelly, Nicki Minaj, Miguel, India.Arie, Ciara, Chris Brown, and Kendrick Lamar. Plus, Austin Brown and Curtis Fields took the stage during BET AWARDS '13 as part of the BET Music Matters program. This year, the Humanitarian Award went to Miami Heat basketball star Dwyane Wade, while R&B singer/songwriter Charlie Wilson received the Cadillac Lifetime Achievement Award. The 14th Annual BET AWARDS, hosted by Chris Rock from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, aired live on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 8pm ET (live)/8pm PT (tape delay) on BET with a simulcast on Centric. THE BET AWARDS 2014 featured performances by Pharrell Williams, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Lionel Richie, T.I., Tyga, Iggy Azalea, Robin Thicke, Yolanda Adams, Ledisi, Nicki Minaj, John Legend, Jhene Aiko and August Alsina. Plus, these celebs were scheduled to present: Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union, Keke Palmer, Regina Hall, Bow Wow, Keshia Chante, Larenz Tate, and more. THE BET AWARDS 2015, hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, featured Janet Jackson as recipient of the inaugural Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual award with Ciara, Jason Derulo and Tinashe slated to perform a special dance tribute to the iconic entertainer. The 17th annual event, hosted by Leslie Jones, included performances by Bruno Mars, Future, Migos, Trey Songz and Tamar Braxton, and more.
On Sunday, June 28, 2020 from 8-11pm ET/PT, CBS, BET and BET Her broadcast the 2020 BET AWARDS, a virtual celebration hosted by Amanda Seales. Grammy Award-Winning Global icon and superstar Lil' Wayne gives tribute to Kobe Bryant and Wayne Brady honors Little Richard. Plus, Beyonce Knowles-Carter receives the prestigious Humanitarian Award.

Additionally, the 20th Annual BET AWARDS honors Nicolas Johnson, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and D-Nice as the 2020 Shine A Light Honorees, which recognizes exceptional resilience, ingenuity and creativity in the face of adversity. This year's honorees demonstrate how art and education can unite and inspire even during the most challenging of times. Assa Traore a French anti-racist activist has been selected as the 2020 BET International Global Good recipient, which recognizes global celebrities and public figures who use their platform for social responsibility and goodness while demonstrating a commitment to the welfare of the global black community.

Celebrities including Congresswoman Maxine Waters, along with leading entertainers Billy Porter, Courtney B. Vance, Debbie Allen, Deon Cole, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, La La Anthony, Lena Waithe, Lizzo, Michael B. Jordan, Misty Copeland, Naomi Campbell, Omari Hardwick, Quavo, Quincy Jones, Rapsody, Regina Hall, Samuel L. Jackson, Saweetie, Sterling K. Brown, Viola Davis, and Whoopi Goldberg will reflect on the current state of the community with a spotlight on Social Justice as well as the Network's 40th anniversary with a special appearance by BET founder Robert L. Johnson.

The 2020 BET AWARDS feature performances by Alicia Keys, Black Thought, Chloe X Halle, DaBaby, D Smoke, Jay Rock, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Jonathan McReynolds, Kane Brown, Karen Clark Sheard, Kierra Sheard, Lil Wayne, Megan Thee Stallion, Jahi, Nas, Public Enemy, Questlove, Rapsody, Roddy Ricch, SiR, Summer Walker, Usher and YG, with performances by BET Amplified Artists, Masego and Lonr. who are set to take the BET Amplified Music Stage, a platform for emerging artists.
