Plot Synopsis

Each year since 2001, Black Entertainment Television (BET) has honored superlative triumphs and successes of artists, entertainers and athletes in 20 categories, featuring performances by the biggest names in R&B, hip-hop and gospel. The 13th annual awards, hosted by actor and comedian Chris Tucker, were broadcast live on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 8pm ET (tape delay at 8pm PT) from Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, CA. The 2013 awards show included performances by Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, R. Kelly, Nicki Minaj, Miguel, India.Arie, Ciara, Chris Brown, and Kendrick Lamar. Plus, Austin Brown and Curtis Fields took the stage during BET AWARDS '13 as part of the BET Music Matters program. This year, the Humanitarian Award went to Miami Heat basketball star Dwyane Wade, while R&B singer/songwriter Charlie Wilson received the Cadillac Lifetime Achievement Award. The 14th Annual BET AWARDS, hosted by Chris Rock from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, aired live on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 8pm ET (live)/8pm PT (tape delay) on BET with a simulcast on Centric. THE BET AWARDS 2014 featured performances by Pharrell Williams, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Lionel Richie, T.I., Tyga, Iggy Azalea, Robin Thicke, Yolanda Adams, Ledisi, Nicki Minaj, John Legend, Jhene Aiko and August Alsina. Plus, these celebs were scheduled to present: Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union, Keke Palmer, Regina Hall, Bow Wow, Keshia Chante, Larenz Tate, and more. THE BET AWARDS 2015, hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, featured Janet Jackson as recipient of the inaugural Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual award with Ciara, Jason Derulo and Tinashe slated to perform a special dance tribute to the iconic entertainer. The 17th annual event, hosted by Leslie Jones, included performances by Bruno Mars, Future, Migos, Trey Songz and Tamar Braxton, and more.

On Sunday, June 25, 2023 from 8-11:30pm ET (live)/PT (tape) from the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, BET presents the 2023 BET AWARDS, with a simulcast on BET Her, VH1, MTV, MTV2, Comedy Central, TV Land, Logo, Nickelodeon, and Pop. No host has been announced yet.

MC, songwriter, record producer, and actor Busta Rhymes will be honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. The coveted award commemorates industry pioneers who have powerfully shifted culture and the entertainment industry. Bia, Coi Leray, Cutty Ranks, Dexta Daps, M.O.P., Rah Digga, ScarLip, Spice, Supercat, Swizz Beatz, and more surprise guests will take the stage to celebrate Busta Rhymes and his 30-plus-year musical legacy.

This year's ceremony will be a Non-stop Party paying tribute to the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop with performances by Dem Franchize Boyz, D-Nice, Erick Sermon, Fabolous, Jeezy, Redman, Styles P, YG, Ice Spice, Latto, Mad Lion, 69 Boyz, Big Daddy Kane, Chief Keef, DJ Unk, E-40, Fast Life Yungstaz & Easton (F.L.Y.), Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Kid 'N Play, MC Lyte, Percy "Master P" Miller, Remy Ma, Soulja Boy, The Sugarhill Gang, Trick Daddy, Trina, Tyga, Uncle Luke, Warren G, Ying Yang Twins, and Yo-Yo. Hip Hop pioneer Kid Capri, whose historic career helped move the genre from a local artform to a global phenomenon, has been working closely with performers, show production, and legendary emcee MC Lyte to ensure iconic moments in Hip Hop's history are represented.

The legendary Patti LaBelle will take the stage to pay tribute to the late Tina Turner. LaBelle will honor the incomparable Queen of Rock 'N' Roll, showcasing her incredible talent and capturing the essence of Turner's unparalleled legacy.

The night opens at 6pm ET (live)/PT (tape) with "BET Awards 2023 Red Carpet Live!," hosted by Terrence J, Pretty Vee, and Big Lez and featuring performances by Armani White, Big Boss Vette, Crime Mob, Finesse2tymes, Freeway, Libianca, NLE Choppa, Rae Sremmurd, and more. The pre-show will also reveal the winner of BET Digital's The Greatest Rap Crew of All Time, which puts 32 of the most recognized rap crews in Hip Hop head-to-head for a multiplatform, tournament-style bracket.

Drake is leading the pack with seven nominations this year -- including for best male hip-hop artist; best male R&B/pop artist; best collaboration for his song, "Wait for U" with Future and Tems; album of the year for his collaborative release, Her Loss, with 21 Savage; and more.
