Plot Synopsis

Each year since 2001, Black Entertainment Television (BET) has honored superlative triumphs and successes of artists, entertainers and athletes in 20 categories, featuring performances by the biggest names in R&B, hip-hop and gospel. The 13th annual awards, hosted by actor and comedian Chris Tucker, were broadcast live on Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 8pm ET (tape delay at 8pm PT) from Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, CA. The 2013 awards show included performances by Stevie Wonder, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, R. Kelly, Nicki Minaj, Miguel, India.Arie, Ciara, Chris Brown, and Kendrick Lamar. Plus, Austin Brown and Curtis Fields took the stage during BET AWARDS '13 as part of the BET Music Matters program. This year, the Humanitarian Award went to Miami Heat basketball star Dwyane Wade, while R&B singer/songwriter Charlie Wilson received the Cadillac Lifetime Achievement Award. The 14th Annual BET AWARDS, hosted by Chris Rock from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles, aired live on Sunday, June 29, 2014 at 8pm ET (live)/8pm PT (tape delay) on BET with a simulcast on Centric. THE BET AWARDS 2014 featured performances by Pharrell Williams, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, Lionel Richie, T.I., Tyga, Iggy Azalea, Robin Thicke, Yolanda Adams, Ledisi, Nicki Minaj, John Legend, Jhene Aiko and August Alsina. Plus, these celebs were scheduled to present: Kerry Washington, Gabrielle Union, Keke Palmer, Regina Hall, Bow Wow, Keshia Chante, Larenz Tate, and more. THE BET AWARDS 2015, hosted by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, featured Janet Jackson as recipient of the inaugural Ultimate Icon: Music Dance Visual award with Ciara, Jason Derulo and Tinashe slated to perform a special dance tribute to the iconic entertainer. The 17th annual event, hosted by Leslie Jones, included performances by Bruno Mars, Future, Migos, Trey Songz and Tamar Braxton, and more.
Taraji P. Henson returns to host the BET AWARDS from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The 2022 BET AWARDS debuted on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 8-11:30pm ET (live)/PT (tape) on BET, with a simulcast on BET Her, VH1, MTV, MTV2, Comedy Central, TV Land, Logo, Nickelodeon, Pop, BET Soul,

Sean 'Diddy' Combs will be honored with this year's Lifetime Achievement BET Award. "Diddy has always been a pioneering force in our community, breaking barriers, achieving unprecedented heights, blazing new trails, and, in so doing, raising the bar for all of us," said BET CEO Scott Mills. "His virtuosity is matched only by his range -- from music to media, culture, business, and philanthropy -- Diddy has exemplified Black Excellence. We are delighted to have this opportunity to use our biggest stage to recognize the extraordinary accomplishments of our friend Diddy." Past Lifetime Achievement Award recipients include industry legends Whitney Houston, Prince, Queen Latifah, Anita Baker, Mary J. Blige, Samuel Jackson, Lionel Richie, New Edition, just to name a few.

Kenyan mental health advocate Sitawa Wafula will be honored with the Global Good Award. The Global Good Award is BET International's recognition of global celebrities and public figures who use their platform for social responsibility, goodness, and commitment to the welfare of the global Black community. Past Global Good honorees include Brazilian activist and writer Djamila Ribeiro, French social justice activist Assa Traore, and artist and philanthropist Akon. Wafula is a blogger and activist who started the first free mental health support line in Kenya. The impact of her blog posts got her a seat on the stakeholder forum that audited mental health care in Kenya (Read Report), and the National Committee that developed the Kenya Mental Health Policy (2015-2030). Her blog also won a Google Award (2014) for its consistency and authenticity on matters mental health.

The 2021 BET AWARDS features performances by Babyface, Chance The Rapper, Chloe, Doechii, Ella Mai, Fireboy DML, GIVEON, Jack Harlow, Joey Bada$$, Maverick City Music x Kirk Franklin, Latto, Lil Wayne, Lizzo, Muni Long, Roddy Ricch.

Presenters include Big Freedia, Bleu, Carl Anthony Payne II, Crystal Hayslett, Daniel Kaluuya, Ebony Obsidian, Eva Marcille, Idris Elba, Irv Gotti, Janelle Monae, Keke Palmer, Kelly Rowland, KJ Smith, Luke James, Marsai Martin, Mignon, Nene Leakes, Ne-Yo, Novi Brown, Ray J, Sanaa Lathan, Serayah, Tamar Braxton, Terrence J, Tisha Campbell, and Will Packer. MC Lyte returns as the ceremony's announcer and DJ Diamond Kuts returns as the house DJ.

The night opens at 6pm ET (live)/PT (tape) on BET and BET Her with "The Countdown to the BET AWARDS." Hosted by Terrence J and Tanisha Long, the preshow will include high-energy performances by Coi Leray, Mooski, Spotemgotem, and CJ. The preshow highlights some of the hottest nominees of the night including Queen Naija delivering a show-stopping R&B performance. Correspondent WatchJazzy checks out the hottest fashion looks on the red carpet.

Then, the night closes at 11:30pm ET/PT with "BET Awards '22: Red Carpet Live!" on BET and BET Her. Hosted by Terrence J, the pre-show will include can't-miss performances by Capella Grey, Fast Life Yungstaz, Juvenile, Pheelz, Saucy Santana, and Victoria Monet. The pre-show will feature red carpet correspondent Pretty Vee, DJ Jae Murphy, and more. Affion Crockett will host the BET Awards Red Carpet Twitter Live Stream Show.
